No power when in gear

I have a 97 marauder and it ran out of gas the other day filled it back up now it has no power. I checked the pitcock and the fuel pump both are ok. It will idle and Rev in neutral but soon as I put it in gear it will act like it is starving for fuel. Anyone able to help me with this.
