How do I install a driver´s Backrest/remove upper&side bolts?

I´ve got a 1998 VZ800, and just purchased a driver´s backrest from Custom World. How do I install it? Mfg´s Instructions are very brief... need to remove upper shock absorber bolts and side rail bolts first - and that´s were I´m stuck! Thanks!
