Can anyone help? I am a new rider and have a used 2001 Volusia 800 cc. I am doing well riding, except for knowing when best to shift my gears. Here is the problem. According to the owners manual it states the following approximate gear shift schedule 1st to 2nd 12 mph 2nd to 3rd 19 mph 3rd to 4th 25 mph 4th to 5th 31 mph As you can see, this means on most public roads I am in 4th or 5th gear. People have told me that they sometimes only get into 5th gear on the highway. As you can imagine, this causes me a lot of gear shifting when in a shopping district going light to light or down a hill. Also, I have been told to listen to my engine, but the bike does have after market pipes on it and it is very loud, so I can not hear the engine so well. I am looking for a general better approximate gear shift schedule so I have something to use as a guide as to when I might shift with also listening to my engine. Any help would be great. By the way, love the volusia :) |
