Overall truth about the LC Intruder right here!

I purchased a 99 LC 1500 a couple years back. It was in decent shape but need some TLC. It has about 19k on the odometer and had been ridden some but not abused so I purchased it below book value by about a grand. Knowing it would need some love I expected a few repair bills, here is what to generally expect on one of these bikes IMO. First off lets address the starting issue. Its a common issue well known about these bikes, due to a lack of enough battery power you are sure to run into this if you are using a stock or equivalent size battery. Because of the huge engine and lack of space for a good battery the starter will not pull enough power to turn over the beefy power plant. The solution..a Gbat from Gman industries and properly adjusting the decompression valves. Trust me this is the problem when you ride it..stop.. get back on and you think the battery is weak..its not the voltage its the amps. Secondly, the constant velocity twin mikkuni carbs..somewhat stock reliable but lets face it..with the small fuel capacity..the millage is sub par at best. Go ahead and send them to Gman and have them built..I got 40 more miles to a tank of fuel..enough said. Now lets go over the bike itself..Its a long frame gerthy ..heavy bike, huge tires and wide frame make for a cushy ride. Loves the open road, especially interstate speeds. Bike is a bit underpowered but not really noticeable to the average joe. Not the smoothest running engine by far, lots of undue vibration when twisting on the throttle hard due to the fact the crank doesn´t have a balancer, so it feels choppy in hard acceleration. This bike has a mid mounted fuel tank under the seat to help the center of gravity because this bike is a hulk, that being said..4 gallons of usable fuel..so 100 miles to a tank on stock setup..140ish with a Gman carb build, not the best mileage I know. Air filter is a pain to access as you have to tear down the whole top false tank assembly to clean or change it, takes about an hour. General upkeep however is relatively cheap..standard plugs, no valve adjustment needed..fuel lines and filter are easy to get to with removal of seat. If you are looking for a cheap, big boy bike this is a good start. If you do a lot of two up riding this machine is great, not so much for solo, I would suggest a Suzuki 50T. But overall, with a few mods and TLC these bike can be great. If anyone has any questions feel free to email me at watcher2u@gmail. Hope this post helps.
