Hiway Pegs needed??

I´ve become interested in the VSTROM 50 ABS lately. Mostly, the height seems perfect and I like everything about the design except how the exhaust routes right where the skid plate should be .... and my legs bend in a potentially uncomfortable position to put my feet on the stock pegs. Does anyone have experience with this bike regarding leg comfort if you are approx 5´11? Are hiway pegs needed?
