The problem is most likely the ring magnet fitted to the front wheel.
This magnet is driven by dog teeth which can break off due to lack of lubrication and the magnet is no longer being rotated. This is the easiest to check, otherwise you need a oscilloscope or at least a analogue meter to check the wheel pulse generator (hall effect pulse generator). A digital meter is not the best for this purpose.
