How many miles can you go before running out of oil?

How many miles can you go before running out of oil?

I recently bought a used 1995 Savage and it did not come with a manual. How many miles can the bike go by the time you run out of oil?
Also can a lack of oil start appearing as greasy sludge between the engine fins itself?
