Do you know what your oil is like (not to mention the pistons and valves) when the coolant is at 240? Good thing these bikes were built to withstand some extreme abuse cases. I think I figured out your problem - get ready this is it´s going to be a real surprise - IT´S OVERHEATING. There is actually something you can do about it (without changing your riding plans). Install a manual override switch for the radiator fan. This way, you can get a jump on the radiator fan when you are going to be in traffic and you notice the temp creeping up. If the fan is unable to keep the temp under 240, maybe your idle is too high. Another thought is if you know you´re going to be sitting for awhile, turn it off. I could go on but let me wrap up by saying I hope you have some really good heat-shielding under your plastics. Mine would have melted off. By the way, how do you stay cool if your bike is that hot? I would be soaked in sweat.
