A sportbike is not an "ideal" first bike. The learning curve is much steeper, and chances are you will reach the limit of your abilites (or lack thereof) WAY before that of the bike. Anyone who recommends one for a first bike most likely is a new rider with hardly any miles under their belt and has no clue what they´re talking about. Get a used Suzuki SV650 (non S version), ride it for a few years and get say 10,000 miles under your belt, and then check out a GSX-R600. You will be (or at least should be) a much better rider, and will be able to enjoy it much more. Remember, your first bike isn´t necessarily your last bike....unless of course you kill yourself. You can kill yourself on any bike, but it´s much easier to do so on a crotch rocket. |
