Ilove my 99 GSXR600. Sure its slow by comparison of todays bike but the handling is great -- I can lay the thing down until your own personal limits start jumping around in your head (this is crazy if i went any further) and it holds the line and gives you great confidence on nice roads. On bumpy roads its not good at all and I think due to its geomety and short wheel base that you can get a headshake quite easily -- I´m now quite paranoid because it does it willy nilly. If I had the cash I´d put a steering dampner on it (The new models come stock with a dampner so you can see its a well known). But I guess you pay for the handling in this way (its not a tourer!!). I´m only a small guy so i find the bike reasonably comfortable but say 1.5 hours of riding you´ll be feeling sore from the position it puts you in. The screen gives good protection -- more than my other bikes yet still looks good etc. Brakes are ok, sometimes i wish they were stronger but then a decent service would make the difference :) Overall the bike feels really balanced and handles great which is the main reason i bought it. Like I said, its not really that fast in comparison of the latest bikes etc and you need to work it if you want some serious acceleration. Saying that I can honestly say I haven´t the experience to work the bike to its potential on the usual riding -- straight line sure -- won´t wheelie as easy as the bigger bikes but it will do it no probs, I did one in traffic the other day without even meaning to but gave it a quick hit coming out of a roundabout. I know a guy who used to race this model GSXR and the main thing he complained about was that they tend to squat a bit too much under power when coming out of a corner which helps lead to the headshake (This statement was made however it terms of race track conditions, not the street). He said another rear shock and steering damper would fix the problem but our roads here in australia aren´t good enough to be going really hard (You would die trying).
