Ever happened to you on your Katana 750?

Bought a 97 Katana 750 (GSX-F), books and magazines say the top speed is 142mph. I backed out at 157, and still had throttle left. Is this typical? Or has something been done to my bike I don´t know about? Not bragging, honestly curious.
