1982 GS750E engine bogging over 3500rpm |

Hi all, I own 3 gs bikes.First is a 1981 GS750E,Next is a 1982 GS750E,Lastly a 1981 GS1000L. I have a problem with the 82. I bought this as a basket case that had an engine fire, Carbs and the harness directly above. I have replaced the wiring harness with a good used one and installed a set of carbs from a 1983 GS750. I rebuilt the carbs with new K&L kits.I have an ultrasonic carb cleaner and it really worked well. I also synch´d the carbs and the bike idles like new.It is a little hard to start. The exhaust is stock 4 into 2. When the bikes is reved up to 3500 it runs like new. After 3500 it falls flat on it´s face.and stalls. There is no black smoke out the exhaust so I don´t think that is is running too rich. I´ve tried 3 different sets of coils with the same results. The stock air box was distorted by the fire so at the moment it has stainless steel pod filters on it. I have a used air box on its way. When the bike is warm it runs fine up 3500 then the engine dies right off like hitting a kill switch at 60 mph. All of the electical works perfect. No shorts. all the lights work and the fuses seem good. It doesn´t smoke at all.The battery is fully charged. I am running out of places to look. The fuel is new and the tank was cleaned prior to installing the carbs. The petcock is new as well. The problem happens whether or not the tank is mounted. I run an inverted coke bottle with fuel when I set up the carbs and the same thing happens. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanls in advance. |
