I´m not sure how new you are to this bike, but I just got mine in October, so I have had a few months to discover some quirks myself. One thing that I had to learn the hard way was that there is no Shut Off Position on the Fuel Cock. Where most bikes have the Off Position is actually a Prime Position. The GS550 carbs draw the fuel out of the tank using a vacuum system, so there is no need to try to turn the valve off anyway. Leave your valve in the down position. To the left is the (RES) reserve position and to the right is the (PRI) prime position. You only need to use the PRI position if you have removed the tank from the bike or if you have done service to the motor that required you to have NO GAS in the carbs. So, if you have the Fuel Cock in the PRI position, it WILL leak fuel out of the overflow tube from the Carbs. It could in fact be flooding the motor out if you have left it in the PRI position. I hope this is the only thing causing the problem. If you have not \\done so already, you may want to bring it in or do your own Carb servicing. It probably needs some adjustments. Also, I noticed that my GS doesn´t like to be HOT. If I let my bike idle for a long time, since it is Air Cooled, it gets very warm. When I turn it off and try to start it again, it does start hard. Just a little tip in case this may be part of the issue you are having. Good Luck!!! -B to the C |
