84 GS550 vent pipe??

Just got this bike last fall 84 GS550E and found this pipe,looks like a drain pipe for the air box but cant find where it goes. The bike has a hesitation when accelerating but if choke pulled on slightly it goes away so I think it´s running slightly lean. Here´s a pic of the pipe, the bike is further down in the photos.
