I suggest you grease the frame and all the exposed metal brackets with a brush in late fall. Regularly wipe down from time to time with an oily cloth, and don´t repeat don´t clean with detergent until the road salt has been all washed away in Spring-time. In addition, spray WD in and around the carbs and under the seat from time-to-time. Cover up over night. The GS500 is a great handling bike and if the roads around where you live are challenging and you´re not frightened of riding with throttle wide open* you ought never get bored! (*on roads you know every bend by heart!!!)
