Turning this bike into a cafe racer?

Turning this bike into a cafe racer?

My son just bought his bike with the intention of turning it into a café racer. Some folks have told him bad idea that if he wants to do that, he should get a model E or L but to NOT do this to the T. The bike he bought is in mint, original condition and he got it for a song. The only thing he had to do to it was put new tires on it. Thoughts?
