The 1979 GS1000L was a unique year. It was the first year of the L version and the only year with chain drive.
After that they went to shaft drive. They shortened the frame and possibly went with smaller wheels.
Your side covers are a one year only make. Search ebay. Be prepared to paint if the coler doesn´t match and be sure to save the Suzuki gs1000L emblem on the side.
