| Hi Guys and Fellow Owners ! I´ve just come across this site . I live in the remote rice padis of Central Thailand ,and am essentially a cycling enthusiast using an American Cannondale with Headshok, and two Giants , but maintain a 1982 GP 100 Suzuki as a fallback option for bad weather as most of the roads around here are laterite tracks. The GP 100 and its siblings ,the Tora ,the Sanchiro and the slightly larger engined (56mm bore )GP 125 and the TRS 118cc are very sought after for their frames .The local youth throw the running gear away and fit Chinese Lifan SOHC engines ranging from 125cc to 250cc .These are available locally brand new for less than 10,000 baht ......approx £200+ sterling ( but try finding spare parts ! ).Alloy rims ,bars,minimal silencing and skimpy stainless mudguards complete the image ,sometimes with a cafe racer style fuel tank as icing on top of the cake . Some of them are beautifully crafted with powder coated frames ,whilst others are absolute death traps . I´ve kept mine pretty standard with the exception of a 21 inch front rim (I need the height ) with a larger drum from a Suzuki TRS and have changed the rust prone headlamp and indicator brackets for some home manufactured alloy and stainless bracketry of my own design,polishable of course !!. I´ve toyed with the idea of changing the cylinder barrel and piston to 125cc spec but these are not easily found locally;the GP100 seems to have been the model to have in the early eighties. I´ve also thought of fitting a Honda Sonic water cooled 4 stroke unit,as one local youth has done, but this involves modifying the front down tube ,which I´m reluctant to do. I´m amazed to see so many pages of GP 100/125 spares advertised on Ebay albeit at UK prices . I think I made a good choice of bike Mike Day |
