transmission doesn´t fully mesh in first gear from neutral

I have a new 2001 Jackal. Recently, after a period of the bike sitting around, it has developed a problem of not fully engaging in first gear from neutral. If I shift to second and then go to first it engages fully. But if I shift to neutral at a light and then go to first and let out the clutch, it´s doesn´t fully go into first. It grinds a bit. Any ideas on what to do?
