I´ve owned about a dozen bikes over the past 10-15 years... and I just bought my first Guzzi about 3 months and 3k miles ago.

I purchased my 2000 Jackal with a sinfully low mileage (1300) and have loved every ride on it from the start.

I easily rate it as the second favorite bike I´ve ever owned, coming in closely behind an EFI HD Road King, but ahead of a BMW R1100RSA.

It has a very solid feel with more than ample power and excellent brakes (even in the stock configuration with a single front disk).

I´m quite happy with both the around town or twisty handling as well as the longer distance highway prowess. Solo or 2-up she is comfortable and capable.

The motor feels strong and the overall build quality is hearty, if not always pretty.

Shortcomings of this bike include.

Poor quality finish, especially the chrome (the chrome on the spoke wheels is actually peeling slightly).
Mirrors with way too short stems.
Quirky oil filter inside the oil pan design.
Lack of dealers.

However, if you can get by those minor points you´ll love this bike or any of it´s breatherin. It is stone reliable (perhaps leading to the name on later models), easy to service, is completely confidence inspiring and an overall blast to own.


I´ve added a small MG sport windscreen, Hepco&Becker 40L hard bags, a backrest, a 12v electrical accessory outlet, a centerstand and highway pegs...

There is honestly nothing else I NEED on this bike, but I´ll likely toy with it here and there as I enjoy the miles.
