Looking at a DRZ 400 tomorrow and cannot tell if it is an E dressed up to be an S ...or an S dressed to look like an E...

Owner told me he has title (VA) but never got it inspected used it for off road only...all of the aftermarket parts and the fact that the turn signals are not on it is way to confusing..I do not want to get burned and buty uit but never get it on the road....how can I tell? VIN#, Serial # ? Any hints?
