Oil ight signal

Hi I have the 2012 model just bought it last Monday the oil light signal came on now does this mean it´s due for a service? I don´t understand because the previous owner just had it serviced it´s due in the next 2500kms could this signal mean something else is wrong? What other reasons could there be for this oil signal light to come on
