Piston slap?

Hey, I just bought a 1980 Suzuki DR 400.. Got it running and managed to ride it around the block... I noticed 2 things: 1) the engine makes a slapping sound.. and 2) the RPM´s don´t come down to idle once I get it going, unless I add some clutch. Are these normal or what? Thanks.
