Sounds like a bad alternator. Might be the brushes or a burned-out winding. I had an old Honda that did the same thing, and that was the problem. The battery is made for short high-current pulses, not sustained draw and just dies, taking the ignition with it. Not a cheap part but the replacement isn´t too bad.
