Oil/grease/black substance near gear shifter

I am not sure what I have here but I have purchased the 2006 Suzuki Boulevard s50 and I recently noticed after riding and cleaning up the bike that underneath the bike where the gear shifter and in the general area that it appears as though there is a build-up of grease or some black substance. I do not think it is oil but I may be wrong as when it is parked I haven´t noticed any oil where parked. Is this a slow leak or am I totally off. ANY IDEAS?
