The S40 uses carburetors not fuel injectors, and fuel leaks into the chamber more easily. Backfires during deceleration is more or less normal, as extra fuel gets pulled into the chamber without the right amount of air (when you´re accelerating or cruising, the timing and fuel/air mixture are what they´re supposed to be). Backfires on startup are from too much fuel in the chamber due to too much pre-start throttle in combination with the choke. If your bike doesn´t start after a lot of throttling, you need to wait at least 5 minutes for the gas to evaporate, then try again. You might need a new battery. Backfires during cruising/accelerating is bad. 1st make sure your air filter is clean, then your fuel filter. Check your spark plug with a gap gauge (the correct distance of the gap is in the manual, I don´t remember what it is). If those 3 are fine, then you might need your carburetor tuned at the shop. Good luck. |
