Bad ignition coil ??

I think I have a bad ignition coil. I was told that there are 2 ignition coils. I have the bike apart, but it seems I have to pull the motor to get to the coils. Is that correct or is there a way to get to them. I think they are behind the Head side caps. Any help would be great.
