BANDIT 400 USER REVIEW |

I bought a ´92 model Bandit 400 (with a Kerker can, otherwise stock) just about a year ago. I´ve used the bike mainly for driving to work and back home every day. It´s a great bike for escaping traffic jams. Since it weighs next to nothing and is relatively small, sneaking between the traffic lanes is easy even for a beginner. This was my first "real" bike (more than 125ccm), and it´s probably one of the best bikes to start off with. A sports exhaust really maximizes the pleasure of shifting down from 6th to 3d gear in a tunnel, and maxing it out all the way to 14,000rpms before slipping into 4th gear.. Truely a thrill to hear the inline-4 scream off, and it scares the hell out of old ladies in their Opel Corsa´s.. I once raced a ´99 Kawasaki ER-5, and I had by far the fastest and most agile bike. The bandit generally keeps up with far bigger bikes on smaller rouds with corners and the occasional sharp turn. However, it can not keep up with sporty 600ccm´s etc on straigt, wide roads. The suspension is (in my opinion) hard enough for sporty driving, but also soft enough for a 2-3 hour trip (without getting crippled). More than enough "ooomph" for a first bike, but naturally not quite the same as bigger bikes such as gsx750, vfr750 etc when it comes to high speed acceleration. The handling however makes up a great deal for the lack of massive, never-ending power. In conclusion: Recommended for those new to motorcycles, and those who need a quick and agile traffic dodger for the rush hours. |
