How hard is it to remove the fairing?

Hi, so I´m thinking about buying a 1983 gs1100gk from a friend who would give me a really good deal on it. I like the bike but would really like to take off the fairing and saddle bags and make it look more like an e/es model. Anyone tried to do this? How hard is it to do? Thanks!
