I recently inherited a KZ650 from a friend who passed away after a long struggle with cancer. He was 51. When we were young, we each owed a few bikes but it has been 25 years since I sold my last one. My friend knew I was looking around for a bike for the last couple of years. I´m 47 so I guess I might have the bug again. After he passed away his wife contacted me and told me that he had left the bike to me and wanted me to ride it so that we could both enjoy it. I will. There are a few things that do not seem to be working properly. The bike was in storage for the last two years.. It started after about a half hour so I suspect the carbs were sticky and fortunate there was gas treatment dumped in or it would never have started at all. I have a few questions on the mechanical end so not sure if anyone out there can help me. There is a headlight toggle which is a modification. Any idea why they would have bi-passed the regular electrical? Steering seems to default to center position. Bushings? Starter is dragging or not disengaging properly. Starts in gear? Is this normal? There are extra spark plugs in the saddlebag. These bikes that hard on plugs? There is a gas filter but cannot find in original specs. Modification? This bike was apparently in a couple of shows as I have pictures. I would apprecite any assitance. Thank you. Paul |
