82 ltd 550 sluggish start and hesitation problems... |

i have to hold the starter for about 15 sec as the engine slowly chugs to life, it fires right up on starting fluid so im thinking dirty carb jets. ive got a dose of sea foam in the full tank and rode 40 miles out of it, plan on running the rest of the tank tomorrow to see if it helps. also, i have to start it with barely any choke, no choke is no start, too much is no start, not even chugging. same when i rev it, if its not warm (which takes about 20 min) a rev will cut rpms and kill the bike half the time. restart then is quick and responsive. also when accelerating, any and all gears if i give too much gas i lose rpm, if i hold out usually it catches up, but rpm and speed drop, rpm spikes, and speed catches up. ive gotten it up to about 60, but not much more due to lack of road (damn suburbia) ive been reading lines about reshimming the cams to restore power, how would one go about that? what parts are needed? where would i get them? dealer? any help is greatly appreciated. ~Twitchy |
