if the starter is cranking and the bike stays dead, no chug, check the dist on the right (brake) side, take out the plate that has the magnets on it. take it all apart and the 2 plastic things with metal tabs on them, they face the cam, make sure they´re clean. my ´82 was all corroded, some time with emery paper and it fired right up.
if you hear clicking, thats solenoid, also make sure you hooked everything up to the battery, and check that you didn´t hook it up backwards.
