Bad Starter?

Hey
I have 1980 kaw kz 440 ltd. I´ve been having problem with it lately. I had it now for 3 weeks and i dont know to much about bikes. The problem I´m having is, I cant get it to start by pushing the button. Once I run with it, and pop the cluch it starts right up. Does this mean I have a bad starter?
