As for fuel guage I do not know. I always watch "odo" and one should learn to safely switch to reserve on the "fly" and if you want to be sure just always fill it uup at about 140. That is about as good as a gas guage. I would actually rather know how many miles I have left than liters or gallons. Saddlebags. I don´t know if they make hard kind but WIllie and Max and Tourmaster bothe make great saddlebags for the 500
