jim your answer is most correct

kawasaki does not want you to run out of fuel. ( also own a vulcan 500) I go the same distance and automatically turn over to reserve.
I end up with about 2 gallons also when i re fuel. THus you really have about 60 to 100 miles of fuel reserve.
