Karen,
Try to press down near the front center of the passenger seat. The latch is just below that area. Mine did that, even worse I had saddlebags under the seat which made the latch bind even worse causing me to bend the key. You can remove the male end of the latch under the seat and add a few washers under the bolts allowing less binding at the latch. You could also place some washers under the bolts of the female latch release. Either way the binding is what makes the latch not release easy.
