How is this bike for the long haul?????

I´m considering buying a 96´ Vulcan 1500 classic. It looks great and the condistion is wonderful but I´m a little concerned about the 4 speed trans. By curent bike has 5 speeds as do most of the newer bikes. I like to take long trips (300 miles one way), on my bike and I´m wondering if with only 4 gears I will need to keep the engine rpms higher than I would like???? Anyone got an answer????
