I own the ninja 250r 2006 model and this is a honest review by a real new yorker. I weigh 225 my girl weighs 155 and we both get on this thing and cruise highways at 80. when im by myself I beat the hell out of it and it keeps going. Remember im 225 pounds. Didnt cover it all year , so i know it takes rain like a champ, I NEVER warm it up, didnt even change oil but twice in 4000 miles, this bike is good for having fun and not worrying. Ive never put a lock on it, and i dont think anyone would be stupid enough to steal a 250. Good news for NYers at least. Ive hit the 110 MPH on the F.D.R. but for a big guy like me was hard as hell. Tucked in and babied it from 95 to 110. A small pothole coulda killed me as bike is so light, but it was fun. This BIKE HAS NO POWER, and people at stop lights WILL pass you if they want. But %!ยค, your not waiting in traffic like they are so your passing them 30 feet later anyway, at least its like that in nyc. Also this bike has to be in 6th gear to even do 50 mph so remember its a crappy 250, every time you leave a stop light your shifting 5 times to get to 40-50. Every time you stop your SHIFTING 5 TIMES DOWN. Every time you stop, did you hear that. You will get annoyed and hate it if you dont get past that and just accept it, I dont even notice now, its just natural, dont think about it at all.
Overall review, Bike is fun, handles better then my mountain bike, BRAKES SUCK balls and you will hit things or get very close to if you dont brake early. Ive fish tailed more than 3 times from braking hard, bike just is so light. Very soft front that goes down / compresses whenever you touch brakes in front. Another thing you just have to accept. And most importantly NO power, You will not go past 110 pretty much without killing your wallet in modifications, and forget about doing a 100 with a passenger. I would not advise anyone over my weight to think about buying it, as i can tell you, you will go slow and look stupid. But i look good on this girls bike cause i got style and I look good. SO have fun, and ladies if you need a bike, this is perfect for you, just get used to shifting itll take 2-3 months and youll have a blast.
