i have about 2600 miles on my ninja and i tensioned it once at about 6-700 miles, it probibly needed it due to things wearing into place and settling in. I see it as an easy job, if you take your time and just tinker at it. the process still only takes 20 minutes. Ok, a quik run through.. 1st, put the bike on the center stand. 2nd, i use a big crecent wrench(adjustable wrench) to loosen the axle bolt. 3rd, loosen the retaining nuts on the adjuster bolts (4th, Kawy book says to loosen rear brake caliper brace.) 4th, tighen adjuster bolts evenly until the chain has just a little up and down "give". DO NOT tension the chain fully tight! 5th, simply sight from the rear tire to the front tire to make sure that you have kept the rear tire "straight" with the front(within reason). 6th, reverse procedure for tighting bolts. the owners manual list all proper bolt torque spec´s if you want to go that far. i think it´s an quik and easy job, but i´ve been riding and repairing for 6 years now. |
