Hi I´m new to the forum. I have a basket case kl that hadn´t run in many years. After new points, plug and carburetor rebuild, I got it running. It idles well and runs well at low speed. When you start to wind it up a bit the motor misses badly and begins to foul the plug. I leaned it out as much as possible with carb adjustments with the same results. I set the timing the way the manual tells you to with a voltmeter as I can´t find a 6 volt timing light, still no luck. The compression was pretty low so I tore down the top end. The cylinder, piston, and wrist pin were all within specs, no evidence of any leakage in the base or head gaskets, but it definitely needs rings. When I removed the cam both journals were within specs but there was only 1 measurement for lobe height but one of the lobes is 3.175 mm smaller than the other. Are both lobes supposed to be the same height? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom
