GPZ900R has a high/low oil temperature switch, wich changes the blower of the watercooler to start earlier (as when the ignition is taken) if the oil temperature exceeds 120°c. But for north european use is that gimmick unimportant - In opposite: Due to the unregulated oilcooling, the oiltemperature will normally stay much lower than the driver expects! To detect the actual temperature of the oil, one can buy and install one of the several sensor/gauges avaiable on the market - Or with few spares use the original water-temperature gauge for oil temperature as well as water temperature: The tread in wich the high/low switch is mounted in the oilpan (easy to find: It´s the only electrical connection to the oilpan) matches the tread on the coolant-temperaturesensor in the thermostat-housing. Buy such one from the scrap or the accessories -market and mount ind the oilpan for oncoming temperature-measurement. Untill the A7-model there is an kombined voltage/rpm -meter operated by at switch on the dashboard. This pushbutton can by simple electrical work (see beneath) be used to operate the original thermometre to indicate for water/oil, othervise: mount a seperate switch to change between the two signals (water or oil -sensor). Sidestory: A little information about relays: Relays are in fact just remote operated switches, and the double sided type has contacts for operated (by switching current to the relay) as non operated position, in wich a simple press button can make the relay changing between two signals by pushing or not. Double-relays has two pair of contacts side by side wich operates simultaneusly! For the use of the original switch, buy a doublesided double relay and mount it in such manner that the original push-button operates the relay, and the signals/leads for the RPM indication and the water temperature are present when the relay (push button) is not operated, and the signals for the voltage and the oil-temperature are present when operating the relay (pushing the button). Hereby is the original function of the pushbutton: Changing between RPM and voltage, converted to include(!) a simultaneusly changing between the water and oil -temperature on the original thermometre! The operation has a little electrical sideeffect: By interrupting the circuit for the high/low measurement in the oilpan, the water radiator blower will permanently operate as was the oiltemperature too high: Starting blowing as low as with the needle in the middle of the gauge. This can be avoided by simply grunding the hereafter unused (high/low-)electrical wire by connecting it to the engine/frame in some manner. However: By inserting another doublesided (single) relay to be operated by the neutral-lamp, and mounting the unused high temperature lead in such manner that it only ground-connects when the neutral-lamp is shut off, will force the radiator-blowers to operate if the water temperature is above middle and(!) the gearbox is in neutral. This could be usefull during stop´n go operation!? |
