Hi, I´ve had my Ninja 600 since new in 1985, and i´ve replaced the tires three times. The first time, i went with the exact OEM replacement. It´s been a long time and i didn´t have anything else to compare them to, but i remember the bike handling nicely enough. The second time, i made the mistake of going with one of the first Dunlop radials. Radials were new and all the rage, so i assumed they´d be great for the ZX600. I believe the sizes were the same as stock, except for the aspect ratios (110/80-16 and 130/80-16 ?). Over time, and with experience riding other people´s bikes, i came to realize that these tires were terrible for the Ninja, as the handling was not at all confidence inspiring. I didn´t have much luck getting any advice on Ninja 600 sites or message boards (there aren´t many around these days!) but i did try to gather as much information as possible on sport-touring bias-ply tires, and decided to go with the Dunlop GT501s in the original stock sizes (110/90-16 and 130/90-16). Check out the info on Dunlop´s site, here: http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/tirecatalog_tire.asp?id=8 I am pleased to say that the bike handles better than i ever remember - very confidence-inspiring in the curves. I also spend most of my time seeking out twisties, ideally smooth medium to high-speed sweepers, which suit our bike best, but hairpins are fine, too. In all my years of riding, i´ve never scraped a peg, but with the easy and predictale way the bike leans into the turns now, i´ve scraped my boots a couple of times. So the bottom line is that i highly recommend the GT501´s in the stock size. If anyone else has experience on other modern tires for comparison purposes, please post! Good luck.... ...dave |
