Hi Guys - Wheel/Tyres |

Hi Guys, A quick review of my RX history by way of introduction and then my wheel/tyre questions. I got an RX back in ´86. I was stunned by its speed, but it just wouldn´t go around corners. Then I got some HiSport radials on and within 10 miles I could grind the pegs anywhere. I was a very happy bunny. The bike then got laid up while I went to uni and I just never picked it up again because of long work hours and the new family I also got at uni. Fast forward 20 years, I dig the bike out and put it in my new garage just in time for the garage to go on fire. The heat from the fire only melted the top of the fairing, seats and tail piece. I replaced those bits off ebay, put a new battery oil and plugs in. Then the difficult bits. The carbs were solid with gunk. Lots of time with carb cleaning fluid and I managed to get them clean. Next was the tank. Inside the top half was rusted and the bottom was solid with gunk. No matter what I did I couldn´t clean the gunk out so I sealed the tank with PO16. In went new fuel and it started straight away. Amazing after 20 years. A truly excellent bike. I know the tyres are 20 years old and I´m also 20 years older, but I just don´t want to lean the bike over while I´m out and about. So, my first question to all you guys is, what are the best 16 tyres to get and will I be able to scrap the pegs with them? The next questions are, to fit modern sport rubber, which 17 inch wheels fit and which are the easiest. I did look at getting a more modern bike, but I´ve grown attached to the RX and I can´t ride a modern bike, the old wrist injuries mean I can´t put that much weight on them. Well thanks for reading and I look forward to any of your comments/advice. Best regards, Glyder Fach |
