Did you drain the tank, and/or add a fuel stabilizer to it? If not, the gas has probably turned to varnish. Even if the tank was drained (as with the Yamaha I recently purchased), if fuel was left in the petcocks and/or carbs, the latter 2 components may have to be cleaned and/or overhauled.
