The widowmaker

Put yourself back in the seventies, before the arrival of the Kawasaki 500 and 750. At this time, the best street burner you could buy was the Yamaha 350 2 cylinders, and this motorcycle could really go on accelleration. Then came the Kawasaki 500, it was like if the Yamaha 350 was a donkey. So, when the 750 appeared, with performances even more astonishing than the 500, it has been a major comotion in the motorcycle comunity. The first time I drove it, I opened the throttle midway just to see if it was up to its reputation. Surprise ! The accelleration was so fast that I could not shut the throttle, and I almost lost grip of the bike. After this first encounter where I learned to be respectfull, I got to know this monster. Accelleration and top speed was great, you could go on a wheelie at almost any speed or decide to burn your tire in a few seconds, suspension was poor and so was the handling in a curve. Driving this bike earned you a ...reputation... to say the least. All in all, it was a very exciting and very dangerous bike. Its nickname ended up to be the widowmaker, probably whith reasons. When I sold the bike, the guy drove it for half a mile, and got killed... Yes, probably with reasons. But sometime, even at 50 years old, I´m still dreaming of the seventies.
