I bought a second hand 71 H1 in July, 1973. It was a lovely blue metallic, and had only 4,000 miles on the clock - Australia changed to kilometres properly in 1974. Anyway, it was a head turner and quite a change from the 750 Honda I rode as a Highway Patrol cop. It was a real handful at first until I learned just how to pull about 5000 rpm and let the clutch go (properly). It would burn rubber for about 10 metres and if you could keep the front wheel down it accelerated like nothing on earth. I later tricked it up and mucked around with pistons and ports and got 59 hp at the rear wheel. Handling wasn´t the best and I found the twin leading shoe front brake a bit ´grabby´ at first but WOW - all those little idiosyncracies faded away when you let it go. I got 11.96 over the quarter mile and 119 mph but remember this baby was worked a bit. What great memories. Got married in 1980 and the wife hated the bike so it went. I ended up selling it for $100 more than I paid for it. Did over 25,000 miles, 2 chains, 2 clutches and about 4 tyres. It was the most fun ever. Used a bit of oil, and the handling wasn´t the best on bumpy bends, but who cares. It was reliable and off the line nothing could get near it. Loved my Kwacka.
