been a while since i owned my s-2 but i think this is correct. points .012-.016. about .014-.015 is best. there is a timing mark (actually 3, one for each set of points) that can be seen through the "window" located under the points cover and also a mark on the points plate to align the mark in the window with. don´t be intimidated , treat it as 3 seperate systems. set the gap and timing for one set at a time. one set has nothing to do with the other 2. try and find 3 ignition coils and condensers for a coil points auto ignition system and replace stock with these. they give a MUCH stronger spark than stock, helping both performance and plug fouling. use hose clamps and mount them to the frame or in the tail section, use auto plug wires (longer) and the condensers can be monted with the coils if necessary. (nothing will kill the performance of these bikes like slow ignition timing. also be sure the muffler baffles are clean and if you need that last bit of performance removing the air filter (don´t recommend this except for maybe a brief drag race etc.) helps some. stock gearing is about perfect for every day riding. my bike would pull 9000 rpm or so (redline was 8500 i think) with stock gearing this gave about the best in top speed while still giving good accelleration. don´t gear higher than stock for cruising or better mileage, i tried it and the bike became a real dog - went back to stock gearing.
