Hi. I own a varadero 125. Im a "mature rider" and bought the bike to get back into biking slowly but with a decent machine. The bike is generally good and well made compaird to others and this is reflected in the price. Its big as you know so can take lard ****s like myself without too much bum ache or strange balancing acts. Taking it easy - i get a range of near 200 miles on a tank full. Thats doing 50 in most instances. If you give it some - obviously you will get less mpg though its not made for speed and 70 - 75 is all you will reach and above 60 the front end gets a bit scitty. I have dropped the forks about a centimeter in the yolks to stop this and 60 mph can be dome all day with a good return on mpg. Maintainence is as withn any vehicle. Oil and filter change as often as you can and the small engine will live longer than normal.Keep the revs low and wear will be minimal. Never rev with the choke on as it will kill the thing. Cleaning can be a pain so get the decent cleaner and scrub less. Its not made for off road so dont even think about it. The distance you intend to travel is a bit much but i do 30 miles round trip to work and back and commuting has become enjoyable. I am keeping my bike in good nick as i will do my DA soon and so want a good return on the 125. I will get one but would struggle with a lesser machine. Currently my bike is being fixed after an attempted theft. Thieves love varader 125s because they look good. They are really great bikes that plod without the ploding noise a big single makes. They cannot be derisricted as they are built to have 15 bhp and are not detuned like others. My biggest gripe is the fact they dont have a sixth gear - if they did they would cruise at 70 rather than scream their rocks off. You cant have everything though can you. A different exhaust would bring 10 bhp but that would only aid acceleration and not top speed. In all - im happy with it and would recomend you buy one. But keep it clean and dont drop it. They are expensive to fix as they are to buy. just one side of the fairing is 120 quid. Ive got all the options on mine including belly pan and panniers. It looks like a 600 and if you dont over rev it. noone can ever tell its just a 125. If they made a 250 33 bhp version i think they would sell like hot cakes. To have a 125 or a 1000 model only is a bit strange.
