This is a great bike for what it was intended; Dual Sporting. As a dirt bike, it´s too heavy. As a multi-purpose explorer, it´s nearly ideal. Reliable, smooth, and quiet, it upholds Honda´s reputation quite admirably! Getting around 40 mpg, it nearly sips fuel, though most riders opt for optional larger fuel tanks. Stock gearing is biased towards street riding, as are the choice of OEM tires! Most owners reduce the front sprocket size one tooth, and install D.O.T. legal knobbys. With the addition of the larger aftermarket fuel tank, these modifications turn a good bike into a great bike for adventure riding. Several units have been known to exceed 25,000 original miles before requiring an engine rebuild. As of early 2002, only KTM and Suzuki offer anything relativly close. The KTM´s are much more expensive, and the Suzuki is slower {being only a 400, but noticibly superior in pure "Dirt" performance}! The niche this Honda fills is still there, so other mfg´s should add offerings in the future. This Honda has had virtually zero sales competition for over 10 years now, begging the question; What is everybody else thinking?
