Just purchased a XLV750R, VIN No. RDO11000374. The bike is very much original apart from the exhaust system and has 27000kms on the odometer. I find the brake a bit sub-standard, must I just get used to it or is there altenatives ? I would like to obtain a workshop manual however. I stay in South Africa which has marvelous gravel roads with a wide varienty of open spaces and mountains. Peviously I owned an Africa Twin and 2 x BMW1100GS´s.
I was going to buy another BMW but has since moved and has bought a third house ! so yes I was short on cash - but this XLV was a plesant surprise, I bought it for R20000.00 in Cape Town (SA)which of course did not brake the bank.I wonder how many of these bikes where made ? I know of 2 x more bikes in SA that needs crankshafts, is the crankshafts a problem ? or is it bad maintenance? Is there any possibility buying a crankshaft or maybe a complete engine. I plan to buy one of these broken bikes and fix it for my son. Regards, Johan le Roux.
